EducationUC Santa Cruz - BA, Mathematics
ExperienceI received my undergraduate degree in Mathematics from the University of California, Santa Cruz. I am passionate about teaching people math, even the ones who think they hate it. In my experience, people often have a dislike for math because of its inherent mystery. Before they understand the method of solving equations, it can look quite intimidating. However, once students understand they can solve problems by following the same steps, it becomes much less intimidating. While math is very formulaic, it is important to note that teaching math often needs to be different for each student since everyone learns differently. What I enjoy most about tutoring is discovering which type of instruction is best for each student. Once I've done that, students' attitudes transform from frustration to curiosity, and that's the moment for which all teachers live. I tutor a variety of subjects, including algebra 1 and 2, calculus 1-3, geometry, elementary math, middle school math, statistics, trigonometry, computer science, multivariable calculus, arithmetic, finite mathematics, math, and technology and computer science. I also enjoy helping students prepare for standardized tests such as the SAT, GRE, and PSAT.During my free time, I enjoy playing video games.
