Tessa M.
Private tutor in Mill Valley, CA
Education
I attended College of Marin concurrent with my last years of high school, studying Japanese for my language requirement (and of course out of great interest in the subject). After high school, I attended University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA, and earned my BA in Japanese Language and Culture in 2014. While enrolled, I spent a summer semester studying abroad in Japan at the Kyoto Institute of Language. AVAILABILITY ADDENDUM: I am currently employed as a barista, so my days off change from week to week. If you are interested in a morning session, I am happy to oblige as long as I am provided with two weeks advance notice for scheduling. I work in Mill Valley, but I live in Central San Rafael, so consider my 20 minute radius to extend from both those locations. Thank you!
Experience
I've been interested in learning Japanese since I was in middle school, but I wasn't able to begin studying formally until I could take community college classes while I was in high school. After that, I went on to study abroad in Japan and even major in Japanese in university. I would love to offer a new generation the opportunity to begin studying this challenging, interesting, and highly rewarding language.

Hobbies
- I got into Japanese through anime and manga when I was a kid, but stayed in for the history and culture. I still watch anime sometimes. Most of my lack of enjoyment lately comes from recent trends in art styles. - I love writing, drawing, and baking. I really like cooking but my skill set in that department is still rather limited. Japanese food is super fun to make, though. - I'm good with animals, especially dogs and fish (cats tend to be somewhat indifferent toward me, but cats will be cats); I have no pet allergies.
